The Rapid Learning Institute’s (RLI) mission is to transform workplace training and development. Two principles drive the RLI System: 

1) Chunked learning – breaking learning into short, memorable bits. Research proves that adults learn better when information is delivered in “chunks.” This is based on two key factors:  1) Our attention spans are shorter than ever, and 2) Because most people experience “cognitive overload” when exposed to too much information at once. We disengage when learning events seem overwhelming. The core programs in the RLI System focus narrowly on a single learning concept, and they’re just six to 10 minutes long. “Chunking” is effective in all learning contexts, and it’s particularly well suited to “mobile learning,” the most exciting training and development trend in today’s workplace. 

2) Interval reinforcement – revisiting training content at multiple intervals to ensure learning sticks. Decades of scientific research show that if you treat training as a mere event – with no follow up – 80% of the learning is lost in 30 days. If you treat training as a process – kick starting a training program with an “event” and then reinforcing the learning with several follow up “retrieval events” – knowledge retention can be 90% or higher. The RLI System is designed to make follow up part of the process, to guarantee that training sticks, and to ensure a high ROI on your training investments. 

Our Leadership Team:

President/CEO Stephen J. Meyer, former Director of Publishing at The Hay Group, a leading HR, benefits and compensation consulting firm. Meyer spent eight years at Progressive Business Publications, where he headed up both editorial and marketing. He was also a reporter at Advertising Age magazine. Meyer received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Partner Michael P. Mealey, former President and CEO of Mealey Publications, which was sold to Lexis Nexis in 2000. Mealey is a former president of the Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) and is a member of the SIPA Hall of Fame.

Vice President of Marketing, Brian McCallum, former Publisher & COO for DealersEdge, a publishing, training and talent development company serving the auto dealer market. Before that he was Publisher & GM for a division of Financial Times Professional Inc. which developed and marketed management training videos, learning guides and newsletters. He has also worked as an Account Executive and creative development leader for several Philadelphia-area advertising and corporate communications agencies. He holds a BA from Juniata College and an MA in Corporate Communications from Rowan University.

Director of Information Technology Andrew Elia, responsible for all IT projects, data and networking functions. Elia has grown with The Rapid Learning Institute since 2004. He holds a BS from Widener University and a MS in Information Systems from University of Denver.

Chief Training Writer Michael Boyette, former Senior VP at Domus Inc., a Philadelphia advertising and interactive media agency. Boyette has also written professional and consumer books for Simon & Schuster, Pocket Books, Henry Holt and other publishers and was Group Publisher at a leading newsletter company, overseeing its sales and marketing titles. In addition, he’s managed marketing programs for such clients as Dupont, Lutron and Therma-Tru Doors. He is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Journalism.
